Living Out Resolutions

Waiting for waves in Santa Cruz

We've had a spectacular past two weeks.  We started off the Saturday before last by running from the top of Golden Gate Park to the other side of the Golden Gate Bridge (and back!) and shared some amazing views with some equally amazing friends (we did the same run last September, remember?).  Then, we finished off the day with sippers, pizza, and frozen yogurt.

The next day we spontaneously drove to Santa Cruz with three surf boards and four of our close friends and neighbors.  We spent a glorious day riding waves and playing with cameras.  It was my first time surfing since my near-death experience in South Africa, but I quickly and easily (but likely only temporarily!) let go of my fears of the water.  There was so much joy and connectedness in all being lifted by the same body of water; it was impossible to see anything but wonderment in it all.

This past week was a full work week - I spent way too many hours in the bat cave, and Alex spent way too many hours with his sea creatures.  But, we were rewarded with another wonderful weekend.

This past Saturday we joined friends for an early morning run, then we quickly turned around and headed south for a wedding of one of Alex's best friends from high school.  The couple are both artists, and many of their friends are also artists, so we spent the day and evening surrounded by people who make their living through beauty and creativity.  Not to mention that the wedding was held in an art colony in the middle of a forest, which served to magnify the beauty and creativity of the people and event.

The couple had found amazing little ways to bring the forest indoors, and I often found myself smiling at the little things, remembering back to all the little things that were so important to us in our wedding.  The couple also spoiled us with some amazing food.  I was a bit too indulgent though and ended up hobbling home with a crazy stomach ache.  Who knew I couldn't eat full servings of an eight-course meal?

Yesterday, we finished the weekend by spending nearly all day at a brunch with good friends from graduate school.  When a brunch lasts nine hours, you know you're with good company.

Here's too hoping next weekend treats us just as well.
