I’ve been trying to find a few fun sewing blogs out there to read and get inspired by. The few I’ve found are currently doing what are called Sew-Alongs, where readers can participate in a project with the blogger, while the blogger dictates the pace and gives detailed instructions along the way. From my perspective it’s a lot like my sewing class, only in the virtual world.
Though I am reading along with a couple Sew-Alongs, up until now I was not currently participating in any. Since I can hardly find the time to work on my coat, I didn’t want to start anything new right now. I felt the same when I first came across the blog Male Pattern Boldness and saw that he was having a sew along for a man’s shirt this winter.
But, over the course of last week, something changed. Maybe it was his quirky blog voice, maybe it was the promise to really learn how to fit a shirt - a shirt for Alex! - but, regardless, I got inspired to participate by sewing along with MPB.
The group is supposed to sew one particular pattern together, but it's not a requirement. I found a cheap vintage pattern for a man’s shirt in Alex's size on Etsy and impulsively bought it on Friday, firming my pledge to sew along with MPB. The lessons start on Tuesday. Here’s to hoping the pattern gets here quickly!
Hopefully I’ll be brave enough to join in on the conversation over at MPB. I’d like to get up the courage to be a complimentary voice in the sewing community. There are a lot of people with spectacular talent out there!
I'd also love to find a few good science-y blogs out there. Any suggestions?
