After being friends at Caltech since 2002, Amy and Alex ran into each other at the 2007 Caltech Dance Show. Amy was there with her co-workers, and she invited Alex to sit with them since he was there by himself. When they got into the auditorium, they found that there were not enough seats for everyone to sit together, so Amy and Alex sat by themselves one row in front of the rest of her co-workers. Because of their isolation, they had plenty of time to talk and catch up on each other’s lives. While chatting, Amy noticed that she liked the wrinkles around Alex’s eyes. From that moment on she was smitten. The very next day Alex sent Amy the first personal email that was ever exchanged between the two of them, which suggests that the evening held some magic for him as well.
