A Day in Monterey
On Sunday Alex and I headed to the Monterey Bay Aquarium with Ida, a friend from Denmark that I met in the summer of 2008 at my C. elegans course in Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, and her boyfriend, Kasper. Our trip began with a Mexican brunch and was quickly followed by kelp forests, sea otters, sharks, sea horses, jelly fish, penguins, and more. The trip finished with a stop in a Ghirardelli chocolate store. Mmmmm...
Getting a glimpse of all that the ocean holds always sparks my imagination... And provides good perspective on just how amazing life is in general. It's so crazy to think that Alex has actually been able to explore the ocean first hand and discover new sea creatures while he's been out on his research cruises collected coral samples for his work. What a job!
After we dropped Ida and Kasper off at their apartment in San Francisco, Alex and I headed over to the Thirsty Bear to meet up with some of my old co-workers. There, we sampled some paella and caught up with old friends.
It was quite an amazing day.
