Amy defended her thesis on Halloween of 2008. To honor the occasion Alex came as a disco pirate (searching for booty on the dance floor), and many others came in a variety of other creative costumes.
The biggest surprise of the day was Amy’s thesis committee chair, Professor Harry Gray. Without Amy’s knowledge, Alex convinced him to come wearing vampire teeth. He ran in (wearing a Stanford University shirt!) snarling, much to the surprise and shock of Amy. Before she really had a grasp on the situation, Harry had spit out the teeth, which added more confusion to the whole situation in Amy’s mind. Imagine seeing the person holding your future in his hands as a bloodthirsty vampire. Then imagine that same person spitting out their teeth into their hand. It was the perfect comic relief to begin the thesis exam.

Do we have a new blogger? Or is Dr. Eastwood referring to herself in the third person, a la George?
ReplyDeleteOn each of the table number posts, I've been copying and pasting the text that I wrote for the back on the scrap boxes. I wrote in the third person because I wanted our wedding guests to see the stories as about both of us, from both of us - not just as me writing stories about my interactions with Alex. On the blog it's a bit more awkward since everything else is in the first person. (Though, maybe everyone knew the scrap boxes were written by me, and they thought the stories on the back were awkward then as well!)
ReplyDeleteDunno - was too busy enjoying the delicious ravioli!
