Maya, the oldest of Amy and Alex’s two cats, loves rattle mice, raw food, and bread. She is very much a princess: she asks to be carried to her food bowl every morning (Amy obliges, but Alex resists) and demands to sit on laps and give hugs whenever given the opportunity.

Maya is Siberian, a breed of cat known for eliciting fewer allergic reactions in people that suffer from cat allergies. Amy feels fortunate for having fallen for this breed of cat. Little did she know that a year after bringing Maya into her life, she would start dating the man of her dreams - a man deathly allergic to cats. Alex feels fortunate for finally having the opportunity to become a cat person. He now proudly drinks tea out of a cup that declares, “Real men like cats.”
